Two Major Italian Banks Set to Merge
The Board of Directors of UniCredito Italiano SpA (‘UniCredito’) has decided to propose to the market a business combination with Banca Commerciale Italiana SpA (‘Banca Commerciale Italiana’ or ‘Comit’) on the basis of a project which aims at enhancing the interests and capabilities of both banks. For the Italian economy, the combined group would represent a vehicle for internationalisation and for further development. It will become a sizeable entity, able on its own to participate on an equal footing in the European banking consolidation process.
