BIS Appoints New Chair of Asian Consultative Council
The board of directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has appointed Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz as chair of the BIS Asian Consultative Council (ACC). Aziz is governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia. Aziz’s appointment is for a term of two years from October 2008. She succeeds Dr. Yaga V Reddy, who was governor of the Reserve Bank of India until 5 September 2008. Reddy chaired the Council from March 2007 to September 2008. The ACC is comprised of the governors of the BIS member central banks in the Asia-Pacific region. It was established in 2001 to facilitate communication between these central banks and the BIS Board and Management on matters of interest to the Asian central banking community. The BIS representative office for Asia and the Pacific in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) provides the secretariat for the ACC.
