Lords Economic Affairs Committee to Investigate Bank Regulation

The House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee will next week hold its first evidence session in its new inquiry into bank regulation and supervision.

The Committee, who are investigating how far failures of regulation in the banking industry have contributed to the current financial situation and what can be done to prevent future banking crises, will hear evidence from Professor Geoffrey Wood, Professor of Economics at Cass Business School, London City University.

The evidence session is the first of the new inquiry and over the next few weeks the Committee will hear evidence from a range of witnesses.

Professor Wood will be asked about the role of credit ratings agencies in the financial crises and for his views on the UK’s tripartite system of financial regulation where The Treasury, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and the Bank of England are all involved in regulating banking and financial services.

The evidence session with Professor Wood will take place on at 3.35pm on Tuesday 20 January in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords.
