Celera Appoints Alfred Merriweather as CFO

Celera, a healthcare business, has appointed Alfred Merriweather as senior vice president (SVP) and chief financial officer (CFO). Merriweather will provide leadership to the Celera finance, investor relations and information technology functions, and will report to Kathy Ordoñez, Celera’s chief executive officer (CEO).

Previously, Merriweather was executive vice president (EVP) and CFO of Calypso Medical Technologies, and has more than 25 years of financial management experience including service as CFO in a number of laboratory service, medical technology, and life science companies.

Prior to joining Calypso, Merriweather served as CFO of Monogram Biosciences, a molecular diagnostics company with revenues of over US$60m derived from HIV and oncology testing services. He held this position at Monogram Biosciences, and a predecessor company, ACLARA BioSciences, from 2001 until the acquisition of the company by Laboratory Corporation of America in 2009.

Merriweather has also served as CFO of Symphonix Devices, a manufacturer of implantable devices; Lipomatrix, a medical device company; and Laserscope, a manufacturer of surgical laser systems. Prior to his experience in the life science industries, he spent six years with Price Waterhouse in London and San Jose, California. Merriweather holds a BA in economics and a MA, both from the University of Cambridge.
