HSBC has named Alan Keir, currently global co-head of commercial banking and head of commercial banking Europe, as global head of commercial banking, with effect from 1 January 2011. He becomes a group managing director and joins the group management board chaired by group chief executive-designate, Stuart Gulliver.
Keir, who will be based in London, will have day-to-day responsibility for running all aspects of HSBC’s commercial banking business. He will report to Sandy Flockhart, executive director, HSBC Holdings, chairman, Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA), Latin America and commercial banking, and chairman of HSBC Bank.
In other news HSBC has made four appointments in the European trade and supply chain team:
- Alfredo Bresciani has been appointed head of trade and supply chain in Italy. Bresciani joins from Fortis Bank, where he was head of global trade services, Italy since 2001. He was instrumental in establishing the trade finance business at Fortis, and will continue to grow HSBC’s trade finance market position in Italy with a particular focus on the major corporate segments.
- In Spain, Ricardo Osoro becomes head of trade and supply chain. Formerly head of global trade solutions at BNP Paribas in Spain, he brings with him 23 years of experience in international trade across a variety of trade and commercial banking roles at Banco del Commercio and Banco Bilbao Vizcaya.
- In Switzerland, Mojgan (Mo) Faratin has been appointed the head of trade and supply chain, where she will manage the establishment of the trade and supply chain business at the newly opened HSBC corporate bank in Zurich. Mo was previously a senior sales manager in HSBC Europe trade and supply chain, covering the diversified industries group sector. Prior to joining HSBC in 2006, she worked for JP Morgan and Citibank, where she held various roles in sales, product and business management in trade, cash management and securities.
- Robert Carver takes on the role of head of financial institution (FI) sales, trade and supply chain Europe in January. He joins from Citibank where he was responsible for direct sales to FIs. Carver has a wealth of knowledge of trade propositions for FIs having worked closely with banks in EMEA.
