Arbitron Hires Richard Surratt as EVP, Finance
Arbitron, a media and marketing research firm, has hired Richard Surratt as executive vice president (EVP), finance, reporting directly to William Kerr, president and chief executive officer (CEO). The company plans to transition Surratt into the role of chief financial officer (CFO) as soon as practicable.
When appointed as CFO, Surratt will succeed Sean Creamer, who was promoted in June 2010 to EVP, US media services, responsible for the company’s radio and cross-platform services and operations. Creamer has continued his duties as CFO during the search for his replacement.
From 2007 to 2009, Surratt was president and CEO at Voyager Learning, a K-12 education software company with approximately 300 employees and US$98m in annual revenues. He joined Voyager Learning in 2005 as senior vice president (SVP) and CFO. He led the sale of the company in December 2009 to Cambium Learning Group.
From 1999 to 2005, Surratt worked as EVP, CFO and treasurer at Atlantic Coast Airlines Holdings, a company that operated regional airline Independence Air. Prior to this, he held a number of finance positions at Mobil Corporation from 1991 to 1999, including director, mergers and acquisitions (M&As) group; treasurer, Latin America; senior associate – global capital markets; and senior financial analyst.
Surratt received an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business; an MS, Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences from The George Washington University; and a BS Marine Engineering Systems from US Merchant Marine Academy.
