Commercial Metals Appoints Barbara Smith as CFO
Commercial Metals, a Texas-based manufacturer, recycler and market steel and metal producer, has named Barbara Smith as senior vice president (SVP) and chief financial officer (CFO), effective 1 June 2011 and reporting to Joe Alvarado, president and chief operating officer (COO). Smith will succeed Bill Larson who has been with the comapny for 20 years, the last 12 in the role of CFO.
Previously, Smith was vice president and CFO for Gerdau Ameristeel. She also served as SVP and CFO for FARO Technologies. Her career included 24-years’ service with Alcoa, where Smith held a variety of financial leadership positions including vice president of finance for Alcoa’s aerospace, automotive and commercial transportation group; vice president and CFO, Alcoa Fujikura; and director of internal audit.
A graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Accounting, Smith is also a certified public accountant (CPA). She was recently elected to the board of directors for Minerals Technology.
