International law firm Clifford Chance announced that Jim Baird is to become the new Regional Managing Partner for Asia with effect from mid-July 2001. He replaces John East who will return to the UK after three and a half years in Asia as Senior Partner and Regional Managing Partner to take up the position of Chairman-elect of the Partnership Selection Committee, one of the more senior positions in the firm. Jim Baird has been with the firm for 16 years, having joined the corporate practice of Clifford Turner in 1985. He was made a partner in 1989 and transferred to the Hong Kong office in 1990. Since 1995 he has been in charge of the Asian corporate practice.
