Barclaycard Appoints Patrick Wright as new US COO

Barclays has named Patrick Wright, an ex-JP Morgan Chase banker and former chief executive officer (CEO) of Wincor-Nixdorf, as the new chief operating officer (COO) for Barclaycard in the US.

Wright has been in the payments sector for more than 25 years, acting as a president and CEO of Wincor-Nixdorf and previously holding a variety of retail banking, IT and electronic e-commerce and management roles at JP Morgan Chase, where he spent 17 years. He joins Barclaycard’s US operation from Tuyet Consulting, which he founded a couple of years ago.

Barclaycard recently appointed a new chief financial officer (CFO) in Gerlad Pavelich late last year, and chief marketing officer in Peggy Maher. Wright elevation to COO is part of its on-going overhaul of its senior management team in the US. Wright will report to US chief executive, Amer Sajed, based in Wilmington, Delaware and Barclaycard’s global COO Ian Buchanan, who is based in the firm’s London headquarters.

According to Buchanan, Wright’s appointment at Barclaycard, effective immediately, “aligns with our vision of building a dynamic leadership team for our payments business in the US”.
