Wind and BNL to test NFC Payments on MasterCard Circuit

Wind and Italian banking group BNL BNP Paribas have begun a trial of near field communication (NFC) technology, in collaboration with SIA and MasterCard, which allows purchases to be made in contactless mode via a Samsung smartphone, with a Classic credit card issued by BNL on the MasterCard circuit and virtualised on a NFC subscriber identity module (SIM) provided by Gemalto.

The new payment method aims to facilitate daily life by replacing cash and joining credit cards. To utilise the service, users select the method of payment on the app ‘YouPass BNL’ and place the smartphone close to a point of sale (POS) enabled to contactless payment and identifiable by the ‘MasterCard PayPass’ logo.

Users can approach a wide range of services with high value added, with the same security standards of a credit card. They can also check their own transactions at any time by accessing the reserved area on the mobile portal of the bank. (M.bnl.it / cam / bnl).

BNL said that it would maintain its focus on innovation and multi-channel technology as the basis of its banking services offer. An increasing number of retailers, large and small, are adopting POS terminals with NFC technology thanks to new partnerships between MasterCard and the major operators across Italy: from large supermarkets to restaurants and fast food chains, from fashion and sport stores to city taxi fleets.
