Algebris Investments, the alternative asset manager, has hired Alberto Gallo as head of global macro strategies. London-based Gallo, who previously led Royal Bank of Scotland’s (RBS) global macro credit research team, will also be a portfolio manager and report to Algebris’ chief executive officer (CEO) and founder David Serra.
According to a Financial Times report, his remit at Algebris will be to expand the asset manager’s focus beyond financial institutions by launching a fund designed for a negative interest rates environment and the problems faced by insurers and pension funds confronted by very low or negative yielding bonds. “There are very few funds available which can go anywhere in credit, and can also hedge macro risks” Gallo told the paper.
