Munich Re plans CEO succession for April 2017

Nikolaus von Bomhard will step down next year, with Joachim Wenning - head of international life reinsurance - confirmed as his successor.

The supervisory board of Munich Reinsurance Company has accepted the request by chief executive officer (CEO) Nikolaus von Bomhard to leave the board of management and also to step down as CEO on 26 April 2017, the date of the group’s 2017 annual general meeting. Joachim Wenning was appointed as new CEO with effect from 27 April 2017.

Wenning has been responsible for international life reinsurance business of Munich Re’s board of management since the beginning of 2009. He has also been responsible for human resources since 1 October 2013 and became Munich Re’s labour relations director on that date. His appointment to the board of management has been extended to 31 December 2021.
