UniCredit moves into Spain with Madrid office

The Italian bank says that it is well positioned to benefit from strong commercial ties between Spain, Italy and Germany and the growing trade flows between Spain and the Eastern European countries.

Italy’s UniCredit said that it is open for business in Spain, with the opening of an office in Madrid. The group also aims to be a leader in corporate and investment banking between Spain and the bank’s main markets – Italy, Germany, Austria, and Central and Eastern Europe – while contributing to Spanish companies’ growth.

UniCredit already supports a number of Spanish companies and following the opening of its Madrid branch, it plans to “increase that support significantly during the next few years,” according to UniCredit Spain’s chief executive officer (CEO) Pedro Fernández de Santaella. UniCredit in Spain will focus on around 60 clients: large corporates, financial institutions and private equity firms.
