WorldRemit launches Mobile Money transfers to Malawi

The digital money transfer service says that the new service makes available instant and secure remittances to Airtel Money accounts in the country.

Digital money transfer service WorldRemit has launched instant overseas remittances to Mobile Money accounts in Malawi. Via the WorldRemit app or website, customers can securely send money transfers to any Airtel Money account in the country. The company says that Mobile Money – which lets users send and receive money as well as pay for goods and services with their phones – is fast gaining traction in Malawi. In a country with low levels of banking penetration, there are now 2.5m Mobile Money accounts.

WorldRemit, which provides instant money transfers via Mobile Money, bank transfer, cash pickup, and mobile airtime top-up currently partners with 34 services in 26 countries, with half of its money transfers to Africa now received on Mobile Money accounts. WorldRemit’s global headquarters are in London, UK with regional offices in the US, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
