MEMC Appoints Mark Murphy as CFO

MEMC Electronic Materials has hired Mark Murphy chief financial officer (CFO), effective as of 10 January 2011. Murphy takes over from current CFO Tim Oliver, who is leaving to pursue other opportunities. Murphy, who was most recently vice president and controller of Praxair, a large industrial gas supplier, will report to Ahmad Chatila, MEMC’s chief executive officer (CEO).

In his role as controller of Praxair, Murphy was responsible for external financial reporting, financial planning and analysis, and functional effectiveness of the global finance organisation. Prior to controller, he was president, Praxair Electronics, Praxair’s business unit serving semiconductor, flat panel display, LED, and photovoltaic markets. From 2000 until 2008, Murphy held financial and business roles of increasing responsibility including vice president of finance, Praxair Asia, and finance director, Praxair Electronics. Prior to joining Praxair, he was a senior financial analyst with ExxonMobil Treasury.
