ACT Middle East Treasury Summit: Perfect blend of local intelligence

The summit provided attendees with a broader picture of what’s happening with the corporate treasries in the Middle East and globally.

The eleventh edition of the recently concluded ACT Middle East Treasury Summit focused on the theme of regional insights, global perspectives, through a mix of strategic keynote, operational track sessions, hands on workshops and a bustling exhibition.

Jointly sponsored by Emirates NBD and HSBC, and organised by the Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT), the Summit covered technologies like Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence and detailed how they will simplify transactions and remove paper use. The role of the treasurer and its bank associates in a climate of digitalisation was also discussed.

Insights from the Middle East treasury community

The HSBC Keynote session featured Rajesh Garg, Group CFO of the Landmark Group; Ian Pettigrew, Regional Head of Innovation, Global Liquidity and Cash Management, HSBC Bank Middle East; and Vishal Verma, Executive, Cash Management & Treasury Services, MENAT/SSA, GE.

The panel spoke about digital transformation structures and how organisations use technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence, as well as robotic process automation, and what value they hold for the future.

The Keynote, by Arun Singh, Corporate Treasurer, Aramex, and Sumit Aggarwal, Executive Vice President and Head of Transaction Banking, Emirates NBD focused on how digitalization revolutionizes treasury while bringing together the theme of the two-day summit.

They concentrated on how to set the worldwide benchmark for treasury excellence, leading the profession by establishing norms and advocating continued professional growth through their globally acknowledged skills.

Sumit recently wrote in an article with The Global Treasurer: “The digital age is transforming corporate treasuries as data, speed and automated cost controls are prioritized. Banks and supply chain partners must also transform to help the function become a value-addition to the business that can dynamically spot risks, opportunities and threats.”

The ACT Middle East Treasury Summit was preceded by the ACT Middle East Treasury Awards on 30 September 2019 at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai.
